BUTT Archive
About this Archive

Administrative/Biographical History:
BUTT magazine was founded in Spring 2001 by Gert Jonkers and Jop van Bennekom, created to be a lifestyle magazine primarily focused on gay men. The magazine, based in the Netherlands, includes explorations of queer culture and sexuality through interviews, articles, reader submissions and photography, both about gay men and the wider queer community.
As of April 2025, BUTT has published 34 issues, as well as three issues of KUTT, their lesbian counterpart, two anthologies, three calendars, and a documentary celebrating queer life and culture. BUTT was not in print from 2012 – 2021, but returned in 2022 with their thirtieth issue, and has been in print ever since. This collection was donated with Bishopsgate Institute by Brian Robinson.
