No to Greenwich Olympic Equestrian Events

Administrative/biographical history
No to Greenwich Park Olympic Equestrian Events (NOGOE) was a campaign group established to protest against the proposed use of Greenwich Park for London 2012’s Olympic & Paralympic Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon events by London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games’ (LOCOG). The group was supported by local residents, and publicly fronted by the historian David Starkey. The campaign group protested against the closure of parts of Greenwich Park, and against the damage the equestrian and modern pentathlon events could cause to the flora, fauna and archaeology of Greenwich Park. NOGOE delivered a large number of signed protest papers to government, held protests in Greenwich Park, produced a film titled ‘Saving Greenwich Park’, and argued the case for the equestrian and modern pentathlon events to be held at other suitable venues in the UK. However, a final decision was ruled to hold these events in Greenwich Park. NOGOE’s campaign work continued in the aftermath of the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Equestrian & Modern Pentathlon events, with the group arguing against the condition the park was left in following the games.
