Sue King joined the Barnehurst Young Wives branch of the Co-operative Women’s Guild in 1974, quickly establishing herself as a committed member by holding every office at Guild level.
In 1975 she became the District Representative for the South East Metropolitan District and was elected to the District Council in 1976. She became District Treasurer in 1977 holding the position until 1979 when she became District Secretary until 1984. She also sat on the Regional Representative’s Committee from 1981. In 1986 she became a Section Council member and Sectional Treasurer before becoming an NEC member in 1989, a position she held until 1994. During that time she was also National President of the Co-operative Women’s Guild (1992-1993), a member of the International Women’s Committee (1993-1996) and the Secretary for the International Women’s Committee (1994-1996).
In 1999 she took on the role of Regional Secretary as well as Trustee of the Mrs Ben Jones’ Convalescence Fund (Registered Secretary). She held both positions until 2001 when she took the position of Trustee of the Mrs Ben Jones’ Convalescence Fund (elected). She also sat on the Rules Revision Working Group 2000-2001. In 2006 she joined the Wilmington Branch of the Co-operative Women’s Guild.
