Sugar May Archive
About this Archive
Administrative/Biographical History
Sugar May is a multi-media fetish artist with over 13 years’ experience in the film, TV, and media industry. She’s been featured on documentaries, independent films, and mainstream productions such as Netflix original series “Sex Education” and “The One”.
She specialises in kinky, queer, playful and perverse pinup illustration and comics in a 1940s style. Sugar primarily works on a private commission basis, but has been featured in Vintage Flaneur Magazine, Pinup Lifestyle Magazine, and is a member of the Queer Comics Database.
Her style and subject emphasis focuses on idealised mid-century domesticity and uses trans-media storytelling to explore modern BDSM power-play through vintage pastiche.
She explores the Dom/Sub dynamic with transgressive humour that combines deliberate sexism and contemporary ideals around sexuality. Her highly feminine aesthetic also challenges traditional “leather ‘n’ latex” BDSM tropes that are often vilified for their extremism. She works closely with the idea of the "pervertable" - everyday items or experiences that are deliberately and delightfully defiled.
Through sex-positive and provocative character-driven role-play, Sugar wants to bring a shift to the biased and sensationalised kink narrative. Her objective is to enable creative sex play that is personal and empowered.
