Discovering Queer Muslim Identity
This workshop invites participants to explore these questions through guided activities centred around materials from the Bishopsgate archives. It will introduce participants to feminist and queer methods to creatively engaging with archival materials. These engagements will consider queer Muslim politics within and across the materials from different social movements and histories to think through the radical potentials and limitations of queer Muslim identity itself. Finally, we will interrogate the use of “representational” politics for queer Muslims and the political efficacy of visibility in the archive and beyond.
Who is this course for?
This workshop would be of interest to racialised queer and trans people, particularly those of a Muslim background or faith. However, this workshop is open to anyone with an interest in LGBTQ+ history.
