Let's Dance!
Let's Dance! aims to raise awareness of the benefits of dance, make it easier than ever to join in, find a suitable dance activity, whatever your fitness level, age or experience and support dance teachers and organisations in the amazing work that they do.
All our regular dance event partners at Bishopsgate Institute are coming together on Saturday 1 March 2025 and we invite you join us to get moving, tap your toes and feel the benefits. Enjoy sessions from Swing Patrol London, Nick Miles (Bishopsgate Ballroom), Queer Tango London, The Pink Jukebox and Queer Salsa.
Dance gets us moving – together – to tackle chronic health challenges, combat loneliness, and spend time with people we wouldn’t usually meet. Together, we believe that the more we dance, the better we will all be – as individuals, and as a society.
Your ticket enables you to come to any of the sessions throughout the day, and you can dip in and out, or try absolutely everything. We will publish the timetable closer to 1 March, but the dance styles we'll be offering include Ballroom & Latin, Lindy Hop and Swing, Argentine Tango, Salsa, line dances and Sequence Dances.
You don't need a partner to get involved, but why not bring a friend?
Our café space will be open all day for you to grab a coffee or a cold drink, maybe rest your feet or chat with some of your new friends, and we'll have a pop-up display of materials from our archives relating to dance (including the Peggy Spencer, Pink Jukebox and London clubbing archives we hold).

Star Dance

The Star Dance Club teaches pupils from as young as three and offers adult classes too. Dancers are taught at all levels, from social dance to international competitions. Since its formation in 1992, the school has achieved numerous successes at events held throughout the country, with pupils from the school representing Great Britain at world-class events.
Nick Miles is the co-principle of Star Dance Club, a dance school established in 1984 and based in Kent and the South East. Nick is the host of Bishopsgate Ballroom’s monthly events. Nick has won two Carl Alan Awards, two Imperial Society Of Teachers of Dancing Awards, the Blackpool Dance Festival Hall of Fame Award, and the Ballroom Dancers’ Federation Award. Nick was involved in the London 2012 Olympic flame production, as well as all major dance competition events in the United Kingdom and overseas, including the London Globe, which is held annually at Bishopsgate Institute. Nick is a proud member of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.
Queer Tango London
QTL is a London based Argentine tango organisation that is open to EVERYONE, free of the rigid structure that 'men must lead and women must follow'. We believe that anyone can dance with anyone, regardless of gender or sexuality and we passionately believe in the benefits of Tango to both the mind and body. So if you want to dance tango - and experiment with who does what, why, and how - we want to encourage that curiosity. You will always be welcome at QTL whoever you are and whomever you wish to dance with.
Swing Patrol
Swing Patrol have been teaching swing dance and related styles across London since 2009. Swing Patrol are passionate about swing dancing and share this passion through their teaching of Lindy Hop, Charleston, Blues, Balboa and Solo Charleston - all dances which come under the Swing Dance umbrella. Swing Dancing is an African-American dance created at the beginning of the 20th Century in Harlem and is now danced all over the world. They have a fantastic team of teachers who will inspire, engage and ensure that you also have fun. It's a fun and joyful dance style and the teaching will reflect this.
Queer Salsa
LGBTQIA+ individuals often face exclusion and oppression in traditional partner dance communities. We seek to provide a safe and affirming environment where everyone can enjoy Afro-Latin partner dancing, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Our mission is to foster connection, celebrate diversity, and empower the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities. We achieve this by creating safe spaces for queer people to learn and dance, developing an inclusive pedagogy to train dancers and teachers, and hosting events that centre queer Latin American culture and voices
