Know The Show: Bizet's Carmen
You will join DEBUT - creators of Airbnb’s No. 1 Music Experience - to raise the roof with tunes from one of the world’s greatest operas. During the day we’ll delve deeper into the chosen opera, bringing selected parts of it to life and sharing fun behind-the-scenes insights and anecdotes.
This month we're playing through Bizet’s Carmen, with its flamenco-infused music, bursting with emotion and unforgettable melodies including the Habanera and Toreador Song.
"Building on our reputation for providing fun, high quality musical experiences we’re continuing to develop our Know the Show opera workshop series, this October sees the trial of a new Know the Show format at Bishopsgate Institute’s mighty Great Hall, providing vital opportunities for emerging professional singers and instrumentalists as well as an invitation to the wider community to get involved. - DEBUT
Ticket types
There are two ticket types to choose from and get involved on the day:
Sing
Chorus Singing Workshop, 3PM - 5PM (£20) — For community singers
If you’d love to sing (open to singers of all levels) you can join our Chorus Singing Workshop where we’ll work on 2 of Carmen’s most famous opera choruses (the Habanera and the Toreador Song, in English). The workshop is open to singers of all levels and we’ll unite with the pro-musicians for a play-through of the pieces and other highlights at the end of the day.
This ticket also includes access to watch the professionals' rehearsal from 12pm - 3pm.
Watch
Rehearsal Spectators, 12PM - 5PM (£10) — For the curious
Don’t feel like singing, but want to know what goes on before the curtain call? Gain a behind the scenes insight into an opera rehearsal: get a front row seat of the action as we play through an opera score, and chat to the musicians during the breaks. Feel free to stay for the whole day or pop in for a few hours.
We had a lot of fun, and the mix of singers was really good: from those with minimal experience of singing to talented pros, and everything in between. Their friendliness and enthusiasm was infectious.
